From Belize, I went to Tikal ruins in Northern Guatemala. The place absolutely blew my mind. There was no amazing vantage like at Machu Picchu but there is something particularly stunning about giant stone pyramids rising from the floor of a tropical jungle. It also helps that most of the work done by the Maya here predates Machu Picchu by over 1000 years.
