One of the mysteries of Tikal is what happened to the Maya civilization. There seems to be no reason why a culture that was obviously thriving disappeared over 100 years ago. I have my own theory that they were carried off by the ravenous mosquitoes that prowl the site even to this day, still thirsty for blood.
